NKP #765 2-8-4 NS 957 passing through Maple Grove, OH. doing about 30mph on 8-22.
Ooh, a MIXED haul here, some freight AND passengers at the same time?!
Looks like it, but it's a bit hard to tell. And for the record: imagine if Steam Trains like this were still running today, although more friendly to the environment.
Indeedy! Some preservation societies are already now experimenting with 'biocoal', coal made from biomass, to get a headstart on finding a coal alternative so that in the event traditional coal becomes too expensive and environmentally restrictive to burn, they have an alternative solid-fuel to switch to instead of having to convert their engine to fuel-oil firing. Waste-vegetable oil could possibly already be used in some smaller steamers. An S160 (2-8-0) in my region, GSMR 1702, could possibly run off it since presently waste motor oil is what it burns.
True spirit and a fantastic shot
I didn't think these old steam engines still ran unless for historical purposes like a museum or amusement park. I used to be obsessed with them back when my father and I started to build a model diorama. They look so powerful.
great pacing shot! doesn't mean so much with a diesel...
Needs more freight XD
Love the speed, Mike!
is he using a Norfolk and Western water tender?
